What processes and outcome measures do the West Suffolk CBT Service use to assure Clinical Governance?

The main controls in place to assure clinical governance are the West Suffolk CBT Service processes for developing clinical practice, integrating policy with practice and monitoring/auditing practice against policy.

The West Suffolk CBT Service clinical practice policy establishes the boundaries for practice and is underpinned by British Psychological Society policy and evidence. Evidence incorporates research, consensus, clinical experience, user experience, local need and lessons learned from incidents. All clinical practice policy is subject to continuous review and a formal review annually, co-ordinated and monitored by the Clinical Director.

The implications for the development of clinicians are considered by West Suffolk CBT Service Directors on a regular basis and are actioned through updating clinical policies, practice development days, learning events, personal development plans and supervision arrangements.

The outcomes relating to targets, activity, incidents, effectiveness and satisfaction are monitored on a six monthly basis by West Suffolk CBT Service directors.

The above arrangements ensure that the West Suffolk CBT Service business; strategic objectives and risks are managed in a systematic way with clinical engagement at all levels and where possible the appropriate involvement of service users and their carers where relevant.
