How does the West Suffolk CBT Service make arrangements for ensuring that staff have current and appropriate registration with the relevant UK professional and regulatory bodies appropriate clinical supervision peer review; and training and education to the required level for their role?

The Clinical Director of the West Suffolk CBT Service keeps an information file relevant to all clinicians working at the West Suffolk CBT Service. Within this file are held copies of up to date registration documents and practicing certificates. These documents are checked on a regular basis. Original documents relating to all clinicians are displayed in the reception area of the West Suffolk CBT Service, so as to be viewed by service users and service purchasers if required.

For Clinical Psychologists employed at the West Suffolk CBT Service, two types of registration are required by the West Suffolk CBT Service. Psychologists are required to be full members of the British Psychological Society and to have a current practicing certificate issued by the Health Professionals Council. For Cognitive Behaviour Therapists it is expected that they will be an accredited members of the BABCP.

The Clinical Director of the West Suffolk CBT Service is responsible for ensuring that all clinicians receive the appropriate amount of supervision that corresponds to the requirements of their regulatory body. A supervision log is kept in this respect by the Clinical Director. Directors’ supervision is purchased externally by the West Suffolk CBT Service, while non-director employees are offered supervision by the Clinical Director. In addition to this, bi-weekly peer supervision groups for all clinicians (including Directors) working at the West Suffolk CBT Service are held. This process ensures that adequate peer review procedures are in place and that each clinician receives more supervision that the statutory minimum required.

It is not anticipated that the West Suffolk CBT Service will employ clinical staff in training, other than Assistant Clinical Psychologists. With regard to Assistant Clinical Psychologists, the West Suffolk CBT Service meets the requirements expected of it as suggested by the British Psychological Society. The Clinical Directors regularly audits the application of these requirements.
